Building Websites with the Divi Visual Builder

Divi is a popular WordPress theme and visual website builder made by Elegant Themes. It allows amateurs, freelancers, and digital agencies to quickly build custom websites, without requiring any coding.

To start using the Divi builder, users first select a page layout. This page layout gives the web page a structure which can be built upon. Users can then add modules (videos, text boxes, etc…) to the layout, and then drag and drop these modules anywhere on the page, to create their own, custom page.

This intuitive way to build websites, combined with the large selection of layouts, modules, and design features, have made Divi one of the most popular website builders available.

My Experience
When I first started using Divi, I was intimidated by the large selection of modules (40+) and the seemingly endless ways to customize their functions and styles.

However, after watching some tutorials made by Elegant Themes and tinkering around with the Divi builder, I realized that many of these modules have similar features that are easy to learn with a little practice.

Within my first week of using Divi, I was able to build professional-quality web pages for our clients, that looked great on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

Later, I learned how to use the advanced features in Divi. Some of these features include: adding your own code to a module, editing the desktop, tablet, and mobile styles individually, and reusing custom layouts, pages, sections, and modules.

Despite all these benefits of using Divi, it does have some downsides.

  • Divi is more expensive than other visual builders.

  • Sometimes the loading speed when editing a larger site is slow.

  • External style sheets can interfere with Divi styles in unpredictable ways.

  • The Divi builder visual interface doesn’t always accurately reflect the actual web page.

Overall, the time invested into learning Divi, has been worth it. Compared to the slow process of manually coding everything you want on a webpage, or finding the perfect theme, Divi can save a lot of time.
